Bookmark Sorting - Saving Seeds.

Last year I did some internet searches for tips on how to save your own tomato seeds. Not only did I bookmark a few links to help me on my way but I also actually tried it out. (I often just bookmark then forget.)

This Spring I popped some of my saved seeds in a pot and some of them are actually growing! Is this the ultimate form of recycling? Well, probably not but I'm enjoying the process. If they actually grow edible fruit I will be very pleased. I can't even remember what sort of tomatoes they were, (cherry I think.)

I love the idea of this little Personal  Library Book Lending Kit. I've seen it on a number of sites over the years but this time it is on Plasticland.

I can imagine that if I had this kit when I was a kid I would have filled out the cards and stamped the date even when it was just myself reading the book. When I was young I thought I wanted to be a librarian when I grew up and was even a library 'monitor' in primary school for a while.

Sifting through bookmarks again - Spoonflower

Spoonflower is a place I have bookmarked many times. It is a place that seems to be eternally on my to-do list. It is a place where you can have your own designs printed on fabric and that is something I'd love to do one day. But what to print? They have tutorials to help you turn your ideas into files ready for printing with tips for how to get the best results and if you don't consider yourself much of a designer you can often buy other people's prints.

Spoonflower runs regular competitions based around a weekly theme. One of my favourites (which I obviously bookmarked) was a 'softies' theme. My favourite entry was probably this 'Fab Fox' by 'Happy Sew Lucky'. A super hero in y-fronts. (Click through to see some cute pictures on her own website if you are interested. I'm not quite sure what the protocol is around using other people's pictures if you are spruiking their websites... do you just go for it? Or do you email and ask permission? Is there a general consensus? Check our link to our Pinterest boards and I'll add a few 'pins' there.) Another cute entry was called 'Kawaii Kitchen' which I believe came in at number one. They could be some fun school holiday projects for kids who like to sew.

I should probably change the name of these posts as I am not exactly posting a bookmark a day. Any suggestions? I'll have to think on it for a while.



Anyway, today the bookmark, picked at random from my unsorted bookmarks, features a cute product from a cute shop that caught my eye once upon a time. A Handmade Pass the Parcel sold by Lark. They are actually made by 'Bob Boutique' and are available from their own site too. They might be a bit extravagant for a run-of-the-mill kid's party but they maybe a lovely idea for a gift for a special friend or a shower tea?

A Bookmark a Day - 'Parenting - Illustrated with Crappy Pictures'.

Today's bookmark from the 'Unsorted Bookmarks' list on my computer is a blog entry on Parenting - Illustrated With Crappy Pictures. It was recommended to me by a friend after she saw pictures of an incident when my toddler decided to draw on the dishwasher. The blog is illustrated with, as the title says, crappy pictures which appear to be done in Paint or some similar program. Very amusing!

A Bookmark a Day - Memory Lane

If you are nostalgic for your childhood toys and Christmases passed then you can take a long trip down memory lane browsing old American toy and gift catalogues  on 'Wishbook's' Flickr photostream. I've bookmarked too many pages that all spark fun memories so it is time to sort and file them. Here are just a few of my favourites. (All are linked from Wishbook's Flickr photostream. I found a red Smurf tote bag like the one above in an op-shop a few years ago.

The Sears mail order catalogue is something of an American institution. At least that's how I understand it from down here in Australia. I'm not sure we had anything quite like it here. The thick toy catalogues from Toy World or Uncle Pete's were great at sale time but I don't think they compared to these.

Our brother definitely had a parking garage very similar to this one.

I spotted a mini record player on this page, just like the one my aunt and uncle had when I was a kid.

One Christmas I received the Tippee Toes doll seen on this page. (Unusually, I don't have it anymore.)

On this page I spotted the Cinderella book with record that I had as a kid. Sing with me, Caroline - 'Work, work, work... I try not to complain... washing, mending, stretching, bending, every day's the same...'

Wishbooks' photostream  contains catalogues dating from the 1940s up to about 1996 so there is something for almost everyone to reminisce about. Thanks go to the person who scanned all these pages in for everyone to see. I'm not sure who they are but I enjoyed the memories.

Bookmarked for sentimental reasons.
I have one of my own. The game plot - a little mouse jumps in and out of the hippo's mouth to brush its teeth while trying not to get munched and avoiding rocks/coconuts being chucked by monkeys.

My brother had one called Canoe Slalom (I think) and Caroline's was a circus themed game. Were they as good as a Game & Watch? They might not have had the street cred but they certainly kept us amused on long car trips.

Bookmark of the day 2 - ABC fillers

 If you are around about my age and grew up watching the ABC in Australia then you probably remember this Mike Oldfield video (or maybe it was still film back then?) for 'Portsmouth' featuring some Morris dancing. My memory tells me that it was a 'filler' between TV shows in the early '80s. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) I bookmarked this one for obvious sentimental reasons. I could have just added it to my Youtube favourites but I've never been one to do things the easy way.






There are a few other filler films that I can't find unfortunately. The gnome lady would be a good one.  Another that I remember featured two children playing on a hill with some wooden(?) kings, queens, knights etc. It's a vague memory though. In the end they run off home and leave the toys on the hill. Does anyone else remember that one? Have I got it right?

Of course I can find the classic - 'Love is All - Butterfly Ball'! I know it is a big favourite of a friend of ours too. I think she told me she had a Butterfly Ball t-shirt. Very nice!







I will always love these little guys who appear towards the end.

A bit more searching on Youtube brought up another Mike Oldfield one that I vaguely remember. Can you think of any others?

Bookmarks

My computer desktop is completely covered with icons and shortcuts. At times they even spill over to the invisible second screen that my computer thinks it has. And I should know better. I've done my share of tech-support when I worked at the uni. I tell myself, hey... delete or relocate one icon a day and then you'll have it under control in no time. Yep... and that happens once.

My web bookmark situation is worse. I love to 'browse' the net with at least five or six tabs open at once. When I see something I want to get back to at a later time I just drag it to the bookmarks toolbar... and it stays there... and it stays there... and I tell myself that I should delete or sort a bookmark or two each day and then it will slowly get under control. Ha! That happens once. One step forward, sixteen steps back.

Last night, when complaining to the husband that I couldn't think of anything to blog about he said to me 'What about bookmarks? Surely you can write something about bookmarks?' Fair call. I figure I might as well try going through my bookmarks and if I don't think a link is worth posting about here on the blog then it isn't worth bookmarking... more or less. I'm going to try 'A Bookmark a Day... Keeps the Hard Drive Crash Away... ' or something like that. So here goes!
